ICONICA was responsible for developing the lighting concept and architectural lighting design for the cathedral, carefully enhancing its monumental structure, distinctive domes, vaults, arches, and sacred architectural character. The cathedral rises across two levels, with the main church located on the upper level. Its nave extends along an east–west axis and is covered on the eastern side by two perpendicular vaults, each measuring approximately 40 metres in diameter and intersecting in a cross-shaped formation. At the centre of the structure, a monumental dome measuring 40 metres in diameter and approximately 39 metres in height rises above four supporting arches. A longitudinal cylindrical vault, also measuring 40 metres in diameter, extends westward and covers the nave leading towards the cathedral entrance. Three altars are positioned on the eastern side of the nave, each crowned by a dome. The dome above the main altar measures approximately 15 metres in diameter, while the two domes above the side altars each measure approximately 10 metres. The cathedral’s architectural design was inspired by Noah’s Ark, reflecting the Coptic tradition of the Church as a spiritual vessel that carries believers safely towards Eternal Life. ICONICA’s lighting concept was developed to highlight the cathedral’s impressive architectural proportions, emphasize the depth and geometry of its domes and vaulted ceilings, and create a dignified, serene, and spiritually appropriate atmosphere.
